First, a little history. I started back in 2007, right after high school finished. I was always interested in animals, and loved what pets I did have. I didn't know of furries, but I thought I was a werewolf fan. I still am, but I'm definitely more a furry. It was a push and pull right until about 2008 when I found furry artists on Deviantart, and this forum. I didn't really do anything about this until 2010, and even then, I only really became an active furry in 2012.

What drew me in, wasn't the people, unfortunately, as they are pretty awesome. Not even the fursuits. It was the simple question 'what's it like to be a furry?'

I found out. And I really liked it. :)

What drew you into the furry fandom?

I dated a girl back in 7th grade. She is a furry, but I was to believe that is was of but her personality until one day she said "Do you know why I am like I am? so happy, so quirky? why I have my drawings of half people and half animals?" to my reasons was yes and I found out she was a furry. I thought it was great! unfortunately due to police matters me and her are no longer dating however I was always curious about furries. so poof. here I am :)

When i was 16 i started off as a troll on 4chan heard bad things about furries..
I was going to mess with this particular person because i saw they were a fur and were in Brisbane, tried to annoy them but in the end became friends with them.

Eventually i became one..

There was a thread I started in this forum ages back entitled "Who was a furry before they knew it?" Because that was me. I had furry in me before most furries today were even born.

I've always had an attraction to anthros (animal characters) from as far back my memory goes. Most animal toons would at least catch my attention but kangaroos in particular enchanted me. The mascott for the 1982 Commonwealth Games was a toon kangaroo (unimaginatively) named Matilda who appeared in short animations between shows on the ABC. I was in love with her.

I might have become good at art if my father hadn't discouraged me, pressuring me to devote my time to more "practical" persuits such as computer programming (and what a complete waste of my life *that* was 8-| ). Oddly enough I would have expected my art skill to improve after I moved out of home but instead I found it easier to write.

Through webcomic forums I learned about the furry fandom. Initially I participated on an American forum before deciding I would be better off socialising with local furries and soon I found Furstralia in 2006. Since then I've been to nearly every Furjam, and last year I was finally able to attend Midfur, now called Confurgence.

I'll be in the fandom for life!

I have always found Anthro animals far more interesting than human characters, I stumbled across the fandom when I was searching for webcomics that had animal people as I called it then. From there I found the word furry and so on, until I ended up on forums and watching YouTube videos about the fandom, and a few years later here I am.

I'd never even heard of the furry fandom until 2013 when I found Housepets. I'd always loved talking animals though, even from a young age. My favourite cartoons were Alvin and the Chimpunks and Blinky Bill. I also loved Spot, Rupert, The Animals of Farthing Wood, Feral TV, and the picture books with animals in them. The first novels I read were the Redwall series by Brian Jacques and from then on my love of anthros was cememted.

Again though, I'd never heard of furries until 2013 and I'm ashamed to admit my first thought on hearing the word and wikipedia-ing it was "ugh". That was about March or April of that year. By July of that year I'd met and talked to furries online and decided to be a furry and by September of the same I had my fursona. Simple as that.:P

I think it was the personalities of the furries that first drew my attention. I was surprised about how furries didn't care what other people thought of them, because they were proud of themselves, and they were happy..... I always loved Anthropomorphic animals! it was just how i was. Then i was on another account and heard about the Anthrocon, and my interest in being a furry won me over, and here i am!!!

Weird one but at school the boys were talking about.. uh.. yiffing (typical boys in my grade)
Out of curiosity I searched it up. Was a bad idea.
After doing some 'research' here and there I came across the general idea of furries and how it's like a form of art etc.
I thought it was very interesting so I checked out some forums to see what furries do.
It reminded me of all the cartoons I watched in my earlier years. So much nostalgia ;-; Drew me in just like that
Somehow got obsessed with it a few days later.
